生涯
The 15th head of the Masuda clan, a powerful warrior house of Iwami Province, based at Nanao Castle. A patron of culture, he invited the painter-monk Sesshu to Masuda in 1479; Sesshu's portrait of him is now an Important Cultural Property. He is credited with fostering Zen culture in the Masuda region.
Personality
A capable local warlord who was also a discerning patron of the arts, extending generous support to Sesshu.
Historical Significance
By inviting Sesshu to Masuda, he is remembered as the key figure behind the region's Zen and garden culture.
