Born in Harima Province. Famous for his loyalty in protecting the Kuroda clan during Kanbei's imprisonment at Arioka Castle. When Oda Nobunaga ordered the execution of Kanbei's heir Shojumaru (Nagamasa), believing Kanbei had betrayed him, Kuriyama and Takenaka Hanbei secretly hid and protected the boy. He served as chief retainer for decades and accompanied the clan to Chikuzen after Sekigahara. Ranked first among the Kuroda Twenty-Four Knights and one of the Three Elders of the Kuroda clan.

A warrior of unwavering loyalty. Demonstrated patience and courage in protecting the Kuroda clan through its darkest hour.

Positioned as the foremost of the Kuroda Twenty-Four Knights for his unmatched contribution to the clan. His son Kuriyama Daizen became central to the Kuroda Incident.
