His birth year is unknown. Tsunahide served the Hojo clan warlord Hojo Ujiteru, holding the title Izumi no Kami. Around 1583, when Ujiteru extended his influence toward the Oyama area of Shimosa, Tsunahide was entrusted with the administration of Enomoto Castle in Shimotsuke Province. When Toyotomi Hideyoshi launched the Odawara Campaign in 1590, Tsunahide was ordered by Ujiteru to help defend Hachioji Castle, one of the Hojo's key strongholds. On June 23 that year, an army of roughly 15,000 led by Maeda Toshiie, Uesugi Kagekatsu, and Sanada Masayuki stormed the castle; Tsunahide and the roughly 3,000 defenders fought fiercely but were killed. With its lord away, Enomoto Castle was seized in the same campaign by Yuki Harutomo and fell, passing thereafter into Yuki clan control.

Trusted enough by his lord Ujiteru to be entrusted with administering a distant castle, suggesting a capable and reliable retainer.

His death at Hachioji and the near-simultaneous fall of Enomoto Castle in his absence stand as a vivid example of how the Hojo's scattered garrisons were picked off one by one during the Odawara Campaign.
