Kitada Masayasu was the 7th head of the Kitada clan, founded in 1193 when Hiromori, second son of Sawara Morimure — grandson of Sawara Juro Yoshitsura, ancestor of the Ashina clan — built a castle at Kitada in Aizu and took the Kitada name (Masayasu's predecessors were Yasumori, Morihiro, Shigetada, Masakuni, and Masataka). In 1402, the Kitada allied with Shingu Morotoshi, jito of Shingu estate, and rose against their overlords, the Ashina of Kurokawa Castle. In June 1409, however, an Ashina counterattack overwhelmed Kitada Castle, and Masayasu died in battle along with his son. The Kitada clan was thereby extinguished.
