Tea Diplomat Serving Three Warlords — Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, and Ieyasu
Imai Sokyu, a wealthy Sakai merchant and Takeno Joo's son-in-law, served as a tea practitioner to three great warlords — Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, and Ieyasu. In 1568, he presented Nobunaga with valuable tea utensils from Sakai and won his favor, earning the title 'Three Grand Tea Masters' alongside Sen no Rikyu and Tsuda Sogyu. He used tea as a tool of political diplomacy, establishing the social standing of tea ceremony in the warring age.
