Son of Hojo Takatoki, the last tokuso of the Kamakura shogunate. When the shogunate fell in 1333, he was still a child and escaped to Shinano Province under the protection of retainer Suwa Yorishige. In 1335, he raised an army in Shinano to restore Hojo rule, launching the "Nakasendai Rebellion." Supported by Shinano warriors including the Suwa and Shigeno clans, he briefly recaptured Kamakura and routed Ashikaga Tadayoshi. However, Ashikaga Takauji marched east and crushed the uprising. Tokiyuki fled and continued to fight for the Southern Court, staging repeated uprisings, but was finally captured and executed around 1353. He is remembered as a tragic young warrior who devoted his life to the impossible dream of Hojo restoration.
