Adopted son (actually nephew) of Yoshifusa. He deposed Emperor Yōzei and enthroned Kōkō; under Emperor Uda, after the famous "Akō Incident," he became Kampaku. By holding both Sesshō and Kampaku titles, he set the path for the full flowering of Fujiwara power.
