Son of Uchimaro. Trusted by Emperor Saga, he rose to Kurōdo no Tō and Minister of the Left, securing the dominance of the Fujiwara Hokke. He built up the clan temple Kōfuku-ji and the Kangaku-in school, establishing the foundation for his descendants' prosperity.
