Born into a branch of the Amago clan, Katsuhisa was made the figurehead of the movement to restore the main Amago line after its destruction by the Mori. Backed by retainers such as Yamanaka Yukimori, he landed in Izumo from Oki in 1569 and used Shinyama Castle as a base to recover Amago territory, but was defeated by Mori forces and fled to Kyoto. He later made a final stand at Kozuki Castle in Harima, where he took his own life in 1578.
