Third son of Abe no Yoritoki. Based at Tonomi Palisade, he was known as "Toriumi Saburō." He fought alongside his father and brother against Minamoto no Yoriyoshi in the Earlier Nine Years' War, but surrendered after his brother Sadatō fell at Kuriyagawa. Taken to the capital, tradition holds he startled mocking nobles with a witty poem about a plum blossom. He was exiled first to Iyo Province and then to Ōshima in Chikuzen's Munakata district.
